I would expect us to get 480p movies - who wants to stare at an iPod for 115 minutes? And if Apple didn't offer them at DVD quality (with HD in the future), then they'd look mighty stupid going up against Amazon.
Personally, I don't care. I've got Netflix - and I don't think Apple's going to beat (roughly) $2/rental.

Not in the current form. Jailbreaking is possible only due to exploits discovered in iOS and it's supporting boot code. It would be irresponsible for Apple to ignore these exploits, as they leave the products vulnerable to other attacks. Apple wants to sell the iPhone and iPad in the enterprise market as well, and would much prefer to be secure enough to do so. Jailbreaking can also open the device to even more exploits, unless the end user doing the hack fully comprehends what is being done.
As others pointed out, this is Apple simply asking Toyota to stop. Toyota was publicly supporting jailbreaking, and this could lead to more people attempting it. When something goes wrong, the less tech savvy people may wander into an Apple store to try and fix the problem. By tying up the support people, it causes other legitimate customers to wait longer, leading to dissatisfaction all around.

Calendar wise it is... but most people don't view the middle of September as "summer". Meteorological summer is over by then, and that's MUCH more important, IMO.

I am very excited to see what Apple is going to make of a mobile phone (or whatever it will be). iChat integration would be great, but even greater still, is an EASY way to use iChat to communicate with the rest of the world. Not just MSN, but Yahoo and a host of other services, why don't they all sit down and either use all formats, or agree upon a common standard so that everyone can contact eachother, just like we can do by using a phone! Which is where we started this thread about. About that 'PC guy' remark, Apple is in the Mac business when it comes to computers. Not PC's. (Yes I know a Mac is a PC in a sense, but it's far more developed, and sexy, yes I said it, sexy!Macs are sexy, and they also work well for those who are not sensitive to that appeal)

He didn't say that at all. The question was if Apple is tracking user locations. He said no. Which is correct. The information never leaves your iphone or computer.
Unlike the app that shows the map of the spots which calls out to two servers, one of which couldn't be identified and for all we know is recording your data along with your IP and other deets.

What the heck is a "golden master candidate"? Google search only hits on this story and a story about iOS 4.0. As far as I know, Apple doesn't use the term. Someone made it up and ran with it.

Maybe because there isn't a market for one, or at least a market of the size Apple would be interested in. Tablet PC, PDA, etc., is just another way of saying crippled computer and particularly in the case of the tablet PC, the dimensional savings aren't that significant compared to, say, a 13-inch Macbook which is obviously a full-fledged computer with keyboard. Microsoft has made numerous forays into the tablet PC space and all have been stillborn. It's another classic case of form over function and a smattering of interested geeks and gadget hounds doesn't translate into mass market consumer interest.
If there is anything to this, it's probably some sort of next gen iPod with better video capabilities (screen size) then than the present generation - assuming the iTunes video store experiment has paid off enough to warrant a more video oriented portable media player.
But an Apple tablet PC? Dream on.

iAd has nothing to do with it. iAds are premium priced (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703648304575212411500983040.html) Googles strategy is fairly cheap ads everywhere making them ubiquitious. Apple's iAd strategy is to add "emotion". Checking your calendar or email adding a contact is not a place where people want "emotive" ads.
What those of us who have a Mac/PC, iPhone and now iPad are finding is that sync across these devices is not good and makes buying software a pain. This is why it makes sense to "freemium" MobileMe. Give the sync away and other basic stuff that makes people want to use their Apple gear and when they want to graduate make the paid step up significant.

The edge-to-edge concept is what we likely will get BUT its not the SCREEN that getting LARGER ... its the PHONE that getting SMALLER ...
the iPhone 5 will likely keep the same screen size but the acual phone and the beziel will get smaller ... there are more non-geeks out there who think that iPhone is to LARGE and incressing its size is not the way to go ...

I welcome this idea. Intel is a disgusting anti-competitive company that cannot play fair. Apple is forced to use Intel's chipset and IGP instead of Nvidia which may have lead Apple to a decision like this. ARM is the future as is iOS, so like it or lump it. The low end Macs would probably have ARM and others both ARM and Intel. I would also welcome a switch to AMD.

Android is a trojan horse to expand PPC revenues as rapidly as possible; the public potshots about "open" and "curated" are just a distraction while Google fosters an increasingly fragmented ecosystem that encourages users to treat Android phones like disposables to be replaced with the newest shinny bobble from HTC, Motorolla, Nokia, Samsung every 8 months. The only winners in the Android hardware/OS race are the carriers and the manufacturers who can count on the vast majority of Android users to upgrade two or three times more often than iOS users, each replacement extending their contract and extracting revenue on non upgradable, but incrementally better handsets.

I'm excited but... :( I kind of want to wait for the 800 Mhz FSB that will most likely come out next year. if it comes with a new case with the macbook styled keyboard ill snatch it up. :p

This makes perfect sense as Apple has already dub the Black Macbook the "Top of the Line" yet there isn't really a difference between it and the Midrange so by adding The new processor and graphics chip Apple would essentially create the Top of the Line MacBook
The price difference would be too small for Apple to do too much though, after all I'm pretty sure it does costs Apple a lot more to make a black casing.. plus with Core 2 chips being more expensive than Yonah...

When I was a kid, in order to download a movie, we had to push two wheelbarrows full of blank paper six miles through the snow to the movie company's headquarters where we had to type the binary codes for the movie file out on a broken typewriter, cart it all home and retype it into the computer which would take 6-8 weeks during which we were allowed no sleep and no bathrooms breaks and only a plate of crusty, stale bread and a glass of filthy water. And when we were done, our dad would beat us around the head and the neck with a rusty railspike... if we were lucky.
(Sorry, couldn't resist carrying on with the Monty Python reference I saw starting up. :D )
