The radiation in the water is of concern to fish and seaweed nearby. They're already assuming seafood consumption will go down in Japan and imported meats will go up.My thought is that these sea creatures are not limited to staying near Japan. They could migrate and be eaten in another part of the world or expose other sea creatures during their travels.
Considering anything near radiation also becomes contaminated, seems to me an animal spread of it would be a huge concern.

Going off topic. All the MPEG-2 BD's I've seen have this obnoxiuos "mosquito noise", and of course HD DVD and BD w/ VC-1 looks great!
Have you seen Crank? Crank is viewed by many as possibly the best looking live action BD to date and is MPEG2. I certainly thought it looked amazing. Also check Kingdom of Heaven and Black Hawk Down, both reference quality MPEG2 BDs. There are some MPEG2s that look like crap, but those are mostly the 25gb discs that lowered the bitrate to fit onto the discs.
Have you seen Crank? Crank is viewed by many as possibly the best looking live action BD to date and is MPEG2. I certainly thought it looked amazing. Hope they realize soon that releasing Xcode updates shouldn't bee 4Gig download every time.
They did... with Xcode 3 and Snow Leopard. The updates would actually show up in Software Update. Xcode 4 is a regression.

The Hip are still awesome, but I think that they are past their prime. They still put on one helluva live show though. However, I think that they peaked at In Violet Light. Their albums since then have been meh.

1. Is this Mac OS X Server 10.6.6 that you're remarking about? If not, you posted in the wrong forum.
2. After the installation, did you repair your permissions?
3. How many files were you trying to copy? What format is the drive (i.e., FAT32)? Is it a USB drive or Firewire? Was the computer still attempting to copy the files in the morning or was it frozen?

As I understand it, Apple will end up restating earnings for previous years, resulting in lower profits in those years, or maybe even a loss. Basically rewriting history, which isn't that important to investors who are looking at what Apple is doing today, or guessing what Apple will do in the near term. If this rewritten history is "bad", just think about how bad things were before Steve J returned to Apple!
Past practices that break SEC rules are most certainly a concern to investors, especially investors that are forward looking. Trust is essential, especially companies like Apple that have much of the same management team in place from when the irregularities occurred.
I noticed last year in my MGT 410 Course, Business Ethics, that Apple was ranked for having the worst management staff. Please note that that is in relation to board members that potentially hold a conflict of interest.
I asked my professor how Apple could be ranked for having a poor management staff when Steve Jobs was turning around the company. He stated the measure was not on performance, but rather from a business ethics standpoint. Nonetheless, he stated in his experience "just wait", something usually happens with management and board structures so poor.

it should be. i was looking into the same thing for my ipod 5.5g when the hard drive and lcd screen went out on it, but i couldnt find a busted ipod that had everything i wanted for a price that was reasonable. my reasoning was that i have custom engraving on the back plate that i wanted to keep. i ended up getting just a new screen and hard drive. everything i researched pointed to the guts being transferable between the two models. in fact, the hard drive and lcd screen i purchased were both spec'd as being for a 6gen ipod classic and they both dropped right in and work great.

There are issues in all product lines. I got a screen with a little uneven backlight, but apple handled it perfectly. They even sent me a new one before demanding the first one back (now I have two in my room). Don't worry about things before you have to, cause chances are you'll probably be fine. :) At least eventually!

When I asked for availability, I was told that they would have "plenty" to last through the weekend. Sounds very promising.
I have the day off, so I'm thinking I'll swing by noon to 1ish and check it out. If there's no big line then I'll just get there at around 3 330ish to be safe.

How does that make the 4th gen better? Even if you don't use the video camera, the 5th gen had a larger screen, fm radio, and other features. How can it be inferior when it has everything the 4th gen did plus more? At least people can make the argument that the 6th gen is better because it's smaller and has the clip, but the 4th gen really doesn't have any advantage over the 5th.
I'll admit that the 4th gen's matte aluminum finish and colors were brighter and (IMHO) nicer overall.
That still doesn't change the fact that I have no regrets whatsoever about waiting for the 5th gen. There's just so much more functionality in the same package, and the 5th gen's appearance is not half bad either.

I am looking for a keyboard for my Mac mini as well. I only wish that Apple's current keyboard had a power button on it. Are there any nice keyboards that have a power button on them? I only seen like 3, the old Apple ones, a slim one from Kensington, and some ugly black one. Is there one that I do not know about? Thanks.
I've seen a device that plugs into one of the USB ports on an Apple keyboard, and has a power button on it. Sorry, I'm too lazy to google it myself. :D

Do they work for you?
Installed AppShopper about two weeks ago, push notifications worked when they suddenly stopped, I don't get any notifications at all.
I have to manually run the app, for it to "refresh" and update me on the updates/price drops.

Hi,
I searched with no success.
I had some garageband issues trying to download the guitar lessons. Several of them wouldn't download, giving me an error each time it tried. I deleted them all and tried to re-install them. It won't work. I deleted .plist file, as suggested on the apple forums.
When I open garageband, and select Learn to Play, it has a selection at the bottom "Visit the lesson store..." When I try to visit the lesson store, I get an error stating The lesson store is temporarily unavailable" I've gotten this for 2 days now.
Any ideas?

After booting up lion and setting up my mail accounts, I heard a sound that I haven't heard in many many many years. I was literally taken aback when my mac made that sound for the first time in so long, but I am definitely glad it's back.

Probably just a finder item that you accidentally dragged up there and subsequently moved. You can remove it by holding command and dragging it away.

I'm desperately hoping for this to be the much-needed AppleTV update. I spent my Apple TV money on an iPad (which I LOVE; it's perfect for school), but I would eat rice noodles for a month to purchase a new AppleTV.
The only thing that bums me out is that we're unlikely to see native Netflix support. However, with the rumored inclusion of iOS features (like an app store) may mitigate that.
What are you guys looking for out of an AppleTV hardware update? I'm hoping for 1080p and a better ventilation/heat sink situation. The AppleTV today gets ridiculously (almost worryingly) hot.
It is not like there are no alternatives.
