What about Apple? Why don't they go after them for tracking every little thing you do with their services. If you want to talk about a company that violates & then documents our privacy go after Apple.

    Don't be a fool.

But it's ok if Apple does it. What are you thinking? :D

Does anyone else really just not care about this? I could care less. It's not like the info is going to end up in China.

But would you care if it was Microsoft, or Verizon or an Apple competitor? That is the question.

If this were Google or M$ you apologists would be foaming at the mouth. Nice fallacious argument - just because we can be tracked in our cars with traffic cams, or GPS devices, etc, doesn't mean this, or those instances are legal.

This is clearly in violation of EU law, for those of you who are interested:

How true! These same people were hanging Samsung a week or so ago when it was erroneously reported that they installed a key logger on their laptops. It's funny how things change when the shoe is on the other foot.

    http://europa.eu/legislation_summaries/information_society/l14012_en.htm

We should at least be given the choice to opt-out, and the purposes and disclosure policies should be clearly stated, not buried in a 30-page ToS.

How true! These same people were hanging Samsung a week or so ago when it was erroneously reported that they installed a key logger on their laptops. It's funny how things change when the shoe is on the other foot.

You know you're talking to a fanboy when they dismiss and downplay an issue such as this one.

You should be ashamed. You think because someone makes a shiny phone they can treat you this way?

I wonder how Steve would feel if people could know his location 24/7...

Anything Apple does is ok because they know what is best for us.

It seems like any time there's even a slight implication of any software being tuned to be easier to use, there's a barrage of negative comments lamenting how it's been "watered down."

What's with all this baseless elitism?
(Over uninstalling an app! Such a trite matter)

I see lots of people saying they'll stick with their version, or that it's the end of whatever paradigm they had before... why? Because it's what... "harder to use?" Who is that going to impress?

Not just for Lion, but this is exactly what happened with FCPX.

Which direction would the evolution of software go? Harder? Of course not...

I really wonder what the reasoning behind all this negativity is...

I've also noticed that Spotlight has been pretty screwed up. First off it's been indexing every other day which is unnecessary, and while it's indexing it will say ridiculous things like "35 hours remaining" with it finishing soon after.

I think they mean minutes.

Yeah often when I boot to Lion after booting to SL it'll want to index again. The first time it indexed I got an estimated time of 18 days, although it completed in maybe two hours. Now if it indexes again I'll get an estimate of around 30 hours but it would complete in ten minutes. Weird.

...my iPhone 4 still gets the best reception of any phone I've ever owned, regardless of how I hold it or whether or not it has a case on it...

Ditto for me. I can't believe I waffled between 3GS, HTC Incredible, and iPhone 4. With 3GS 30% of my calls were dropped, with iPhone 4, 0%. Had it since July 5.

    "Delightful."

This is the key word here.

Apple's priority is to delight the user. Now "delight" invokes a lot things - some emotional, tactile, things which might even be disparate.

But when you apply that priority to consumer tech, it brings together a lot of requirements to achieve this - how the device must feel; how it must look - say, on a stylish glass table or beside modern sculpture; how the UI should function; colours, fonts . . . the list goes on.

This is why Apple is so successful. They don't focus on bringing to market a competing device that ranks high on spec sheets. They simply focus on how to delight the user.

Thus, you get something like the iPad. While the competition still can't figure it out. Priorities, people . . . it's all about priorities.

Along with the macbook and MB pro getting updates, for $14.95 you can download an ipod nano or ipod patch/software that lets you listen to FM radio without having to purchase the radio remote. Interface is the same as with the remote.

What was the checkout like? Did you have to go through their checkout? I'm always suspicious of those places, and am concerned that they're using unsecured special checkouts and/or are stealing identities. And I'm not usually a suspicious person.

But it's hard to resist for $1.00. The Griffin Reveal I bought was a ridiculous $25.

Do these fit on the cases snugly or are they kind of loose?

AMD's CPU's are trash and they're cheap for a reason.

For someone who doesn't use Windows you sure seem interested in Windows only API's. Love all of those OpenCL applications you listed by the way. ;)

I am not interested in Windows APIs. That's how the hardware capabilities are referred to. OpenGL has tended to lag in new features, so if the hardware has extra capabilities, it will probably support some future OpenGL version too.

They should make brief questions to Steve Jobs the same way he answers:

    Q: Apple killing iPod?

A: We have no plans to

You reckon he actually responds to fan mails on his iPhone? :D

I think he did. He said something like "okay, I've read the other side. Now can we go back to talking about my half baked misguided ideas?"

ya i know but i was talking about when i put:

Thats not true ! Ive been reading everyone's posts but you just don't want to see both sides of the story. I just want Apple to do better...

Look at this business weekly online story about Apple - very interesting

    http://www.businessweek.com/technol..._5468_tc056.htm

really, this is what Ive been taking about...I think that most Mac users don't want to hear it

    and this one too

    http://www.macworld.co.uk/news/main...cfm?NewsID=8372

ok, YOU listen to "our side" of the story now!!!!! The point is, apple is NOT dying, they do not need saving, blah blah blah. just read the 100 posts above mine explaining this to you, but you refusing to listen. If you want apple to do better, then think that and leave the rest of us alone. I myself wouldn't mind having more of my contacts using a mac so i wouldn't have to do tech support for them all the time, but then again, that would cut down on people who force money on me for it.

Usually true, but with FB-DIMMs the 256MB and 512MB only use one of the onboard buffer channels (as in buffer channels on the module itself). Humm ... never ran across any documentation to that effect. You have an online reference? (I believe you, just like having reference information)

In many parts of the U.S. manuals are becoming less and less common. For the record I very much prefer a stick shift. More control, more power, and better fuel economy. That is, if you know how to drive them properly.

I learned how to drive one on an old gravel road. They are surprisingly easy to learn.

I know they want to sell and that it is probably easier to manage, but I would rather rent than buy. I have bought a total of 4 DVDs. So few movies are worth owning. Some are actually worth renting.

I just saw this and though it was pretty interesting:

Sony also introduced their own small-format 90.0 94.0 mm disk, similar to the others but somewhat simpler in construction than the AmDisk. The first computer to use this format was the HP-150 of 1983, and Sony also used them fairly widely on their line of MSX computers. Other than this the format suffered from a similar fate as the other new formats; the 5-inch format simply had too much market share. Things changed dramatically in 1984 when Apple Computer selected the format for their new Macintosh computers. By 1989 the 3-inch was outselling the 5-inch.
    Here is the source:
    Sony's 3.5" Floppy Disk (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Floppy_drive#The_3.C2.BD-inch_microfloppy_diskette)
