I also had same FNU problem.
In my passport Surname was empty and Give Name was my First Name + Last Name (which was actually my surname). I didn't notice this really till I got my first H1b Visa stamp. On DS Forms you have to fill just like in passport.
So my first H1-B visa had
Surname : First Name + Last Name and
First Name : FNU
I had my name proper on my first I-94 card( since I filled it) so luckily I was able to take by First DL in my proper name. DMV initially gave me trouble but when i showed my other documents including Birth Certificate they gave me the DL (NJ) with proper names
To fix it next time when I went for vacation back to India I went to issued passport Office and they stamped be an observation in one of the inside pages which said the name should be read as
First Name : My First Name
Last name : My Last name
Then when I renewed my H1-B later I properly updated my DS forms and my name came fine in second H1-B stamp .
So far no problem till now. I am hoping to fix this issue permanently in my renewal passport which I need to take in 2010 and forget about this forever.

tizzac

Did you try this campaign?
Matthew Oh has posted an appeal to USCIS to make sure no visa number is wasted , in light of the grim October bulletin.
If he can make an appeal, why are we not making an effort for our own good?I still see TSC giving some approvals very slowly. NSC just sucks. I believe NSC did all this in retaliation to the faxes people sent in to complain slow processing, which were very justified faxes.
I see some accusations labelled at me about selfish EB2 motives. This is not about EB2. Even if dates are current, NSC is sleeping from last week of August. We cannot just allow them to arbitrarily close the gate whenever they want. People are allowed to file 485s till Sep 30. Consular processing applicants will go through. We, I485 pending applicants will just watch like idiots. The issue here is to make USCIS work on basis of visa bulletin, which is what they are supposed to do. Someday after say re-capture bill passes, say Eb3 is current. Then, what guarantee is there that NSC will not repeat the same fiasco?
I fully appreciate the need to direct efforts towards re-capture bill. But, this issue is equally important.
I am totally furstrated by the lack of mobilization in this direction. I request everybody to so something in the remaining 20 days.
Sweet_jungle and Bawa,
Thank you for your initiative. After the raised and dashed hopes over the past 2-3 months (August, Sept & Oct 2008 visa bulletins) I am BLOODY angry about this RIDICULOUSLY fecked up system!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why the hell am I subjecting myself to this indignity!!
Here is a letter I drafted that I'd like to send to the Ombudsman .. could you'll help me edit/revise the content and also, please provide me with the contact info for the ombudsman?
we could also write letters to highlight this to Congresswoman Lofgren as well as publish it in media outlets?
Thanks!
Sir/Madam,
On behalf of the Indian legal immigrant community in the United States of America, I am
writing to highlight the ongoing egregious inefficiencies in the immigration services
provided by the USCIS and the DOS. There have been numerous times when there have been erratic movements in the published visa bulletin dates. As a result the DOS either under- or over-estimates the number of applicants available for adjustment of status. When the date moves forward by too large a window, USCIS tends to approve the more recent applications as opposed to the ones that were filed earlier. Let me explain with an example: in the July 2008 visa bulletin, the cut-off date for the India EB2 category was 01 April 2004. A month later, the cut-off date for Indian EB2 applicants abruptly moved forward two years and was set at 01 June 2006. Instead of approving applicants who applied in 2004 and 2005, USCIS approved applicants from 2006. Where is the justice in that???
Indian employment-based immigrants are tax-paying, law-abiding, educated individuals contributing to Americas knowledge economy - yet we have been subjected to the worst aspects of the US employment-based immigration system. These include:
1) Extended wait times at each step of the immigration process.
2) Lack of transparency on the part of USCIS.
3) Lost opportunities owing to the lack of job portability during the process (a time period spanning an average of five years, whereas an applicant from any country besides India gets his/her PR card in under two years).
While we are grateful for the opportunity to partake in the American dream, it is ironic that we arrive in America and find that our freedom is shackled we are bound to our sponsoring employer from the start to the end of this extremely lengthy process. Although legal immigration reform is our ongoing aim, for now, we sincerely request you to investigate the process whereby the monthly visa bulletin is set and to ensure FIFO (first in, first out) adjustment so that those of us who have been waiting longer receive attention prior to those who have applied later.
Thanking you,

I am confused now!:D
I thought that with the Sept 2009 bulletin ( PD shifted to 01 Jan 2005 for EB2 India), my PD is current!
Am I missing something?
Best
Fred
Your PD is not yet current.
If they have issued GC to you, it was a mistake and you should report it to USCIS to avoid future problems.
There were several discussions on this forum about this issue.
Report to USCIS ASAP that you have been approved by mistake.
I thought with PD of 2004 by now you should be well aware of how Visa bulletins work.
Either you went into hibernation after filing for your GC back in 2004 or you are just faking your profile.

Common folks, we are so close to the half mark of $60K, let's wrap up by tonight and then set ourselves to next target, by the time new year starts up we need all available cycles to work on calling lawmakers to bring out agenda to forefront...
so, $30K by tonight, I see anurakt pulling his check book out or probably verifying the 3 digit number in his cc....
let's do it...team !

I finally overcame inertia to sign-up as a monthly donor. I had tried once before but did not want to create a Paypal account - so I made a one-time contribution and kicked the recurring contribution down the line.
Suggestion #1 for IV: Please make alternatives other than Paypal available for recurring financial contributions.
Suggestion #2 for IV: Ignore Suggestion #1 if it was already considered.

Currently NSC processing time for employment based 485 is 15th Sept. 2007... My notice date is 18th Sept. 2007 (based on case status shown on USCIS site)
Looks like I am going to miss my GC by 3 days and wait till next year  I highly doubt that dates will stay at 2005 during next month bulletin.. (I truly hope I am wrong!)

Guys,
We are really thankful for your contributions. Let me remind all the members here, every penny you are paying to IV is accounted for. All the expenses incurred by IV members for traveling to DC for various meetings are all non-billable and are borne by themselves. There are few core team members whose personnel expenses have gone beyond 10K. I believe each of you can very well understand their need for green card is no more or less than your need for the status. So everybody, I repeat, everybody, please come forward and contribute.
Thanks

If HR 5882 bill is passed, it is good that we have more visa numbers. But the issue of random processing without considering priority dates is frustrating to people with older PDs. Lot of people here are eligible to get GCs with the current cutoff dates, but still are being left out. I think, this is another very important issue to be fight for by the IV core team and members.

** I've posted this message in other threads as well. Want to be part of every thread circulated in appreciation of IV and its contribution to the relief that we got today **
I don't have words to show my gratitude and appreciation for IV team.
On July 2nd, I was so upset. I did not have a clue of what is going to happen.
Then I came across IV. I joined it as I was joining any forum remotely related to immigration issues.
Logiclife is right, in the beginning it's difficult to realize how important IV is. But as time passed I realized the strength of IV.
When employers, attorney, doctors all were busy making money out of our misery, dedicated core members and others in IV were preparing to take our cause forward and to fight till we got the justice.
Today, And I am glad to be a part of it...
I am with you guys for just 15 days, but I feel empowered.
Today, I was exuberant, and I don't think this would have been possible without so much effort, unity, perseverance, and enthusiasm in our group.
I am going to be a lifetime member and contributor to the cause of IV family.
I run my family in US and understand it's impossible to maintain a family and make progress in the target areas without proper money flow.
To help in that area, I am making first time $500 contribution and then $20 per month.
Thanks a lot IV!

Oh man. I had to burst out laughing on your post imagining how that cop would endure if given such a punishment. But pity that lady how much ever crime she might have committed earlier. Still pregnancy and delivery is a re-birth for ladies.
There are times when you enforce law as a cop. But not all the times. Wish there was some humanity shown by this person. Acts like these are like a drop of ink in a glass of water. These bad cops taint the entire department.
Disgusting, Sheriff Joe is monster. Perhaps he came from family with no respect for women.
On the lighter note, if I were a judge, here's what I would do with Sheriff Joe if he was trailed:
1. Perform sex change operation on Sheriff Joe and install a womb.
2. Perform artificial insemination on Sheriff Joe using the seed of big man like Undertaker, Shaq or Khali (so that offspring is a big baby).
3. On term, shackles Sheriff Joe and make him go through the pain of giving birth. In the process don't administer epidural or perform C-Section.
4. Don't repair any damage done to his body parts after delivery.
