iOS evolution from 1 to 4 is somewhat disappointing. It has become somewhat stale, especially for the iPad. Hopefully iOS 5 is a big leap forward.

Another "effect" of this deep discounting, for me at least, is I now regret buying Applecare for my iPad1. Only adds one year of warranty (not 2 years like computers) and increased my investment by $80. I figured it would give me a edge in resale but looks like resale for my $910 iPad has dropped way down.
Most likely I'll sell it six months from now and just wait and see what's happening a year from now. Truth be told I'm disappointed in how hard iOS makes exchanging files between applications, really makes doing work harder than it could be. Good for surfing, news, and entertainment, but not for the way I like to work.

Well I've not yet appeared in the news. Note that when I talk about the rebellious crowd, I'm referring to more than just you and the peopl in this thread. There has been a total overreaction to it in the news and by 'celebrities' over the country. In any case, that's not irony.
Some time in the future when past christmas number ones are played I'll get a little smile when I hear 2009's.
I sincerely hope not. I'd rather have anything other than a poor metal track being played continually on the radio over the festive period.

I suspect the next iPhone, released in June, July, or September will be largely unchanged from the 4. An A5, sure. Maybe higher storage capacities. A "world" model, from what the Verizon exec said. Black or white. That's about it.My thoughts exactly.

Does anybody know if the push is applied to chat messages when the messages toggle is on? Does it only apply to the messages that arrive in your inbox? Also, could someone explain what Facebook gathers from your phone during sync? I would rather not give any information that compromises anything my friends would like to keep out of the hands of Facebook.

In RFID reader mode the phone would be able to interact with tags in its vicinity. Ok just so my pea brain has a proper handle on this, are people saying that all I have to do is simply install XP, off of my XP disk, onto a free HDD, and viola, I am done? I'll assume that I will also need some drivers for video, and such as well...If you have a RAID setup you cannot run Bootcamp, but you can get the drivers. Find the Bootcamp package, right click on it and select Show Contents. Then find an image file in the Window that comes up and burn this to a CD. If you don't have a RAID setup just run Bootcamp and select the option to burn drivers to a CD - don't go through the partitioning bit.
You need to configure the drive where you will install Windows as a Windows boot drive. To do this go into Disk Utility, select the drive you want to install XP on, format the drive as MS-DOS and set the options to Master Boot Record (very important or you wont be able to boot XP). Once you have done these stick your XP installation CD in and shutdown your Mac. Remove all hard drives, except for the one you want to install XP on and start your Mac by holding the command or c key. Once you've installed put your other drives back in and you should be able to boot OS X and XP.

I've followed the computer industry for 26+ years.. I remember a time when Apples marketshare was thru the roof. I also remember a company called Commodore that is still the best selling personal computer of all time.
I know a whole lot more people who would be more inclined to buy a Mac if they could run their favorite app, or the latest game under MacOSX.
That sort of thing can only come with market share.
The switch to Intel can go one of two ways.. it could get Macs in peoples hands, who grow to prefer the OSXperience and abandon Windows all together.. or it could end up being an Alienware kind of computer that people buy as a status symbol, but run Windows on it.
Heck, you may start to see software developers abandon their Mac divisions all together.. figuring that since most Intel Mac users have Windows installed, they can just write ONE version of their software and cover all bases.
Growth and increased market share is good for Apple, and good for their customers.
There is a long list of hardware companies that gave up their propriatary designs and archetecture and adopted the 'x86' that you don't hear much of anymore.
What seperates Apple from those companies is their totally rockin' OS.. but an OS is only as good as the software that's available for it.
I tell ya what i'd really like to see.. the ability to run XP apps from within OSX.. sort of like Wine.. in an easy to use and configure setup.

This really makes a whole lot of sense: DVDs are dirt cheap (like 0.03 USD cheap), 8GB USB drives are not. Providing the OS on stick drive makes sense for an expensive machine like the Macbook Air, where people are paying more for the tiny size. And boo to only offering 10.7 over the Mac App Store.
